AI providers & costs
Daisy never bundles an AI service you can't see. You choose what does the transcription and the summarizing, and — if it's a paid provider — you pay that provider directly with your own key. Daisy never proxies your audio or marks up their rates.
The free, fully-offline path
You can run Daisy without spending a cent on AI:
- Transcription: local Whisper (bundled), or a local server like faster-whisper. Offline transcription is semi-live — text arrives in roughly 15-second chunks rather than word-by-word. True word-by-word live transcription requires a cloud provider (see below).
- Summaries, goals, coaching, Q&A: a local model through Ollama or LM Studio.
Everything stays on your machine, nothing hits the network, and the only cost is your Daisy subscription. Speaker diarization is always on-device, so it's free no matter which transcription you pick.
The paid, bring-your-own-key path
If you want cloud speed and accuracy, add your own API key in Settings. Daisy supports:
- Transcription: Deepgram, Groq (Whisper), OpenAI (Whisper).
- Summaries & analysis: Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, Groq.
Your key lives in the encrypted vault. Charges go straight to that provider on your account — you can watch usage and revoke the key in their console anytime. Because you're billed directly, nothing is hidden in a Daisy invoice.
What happens to your data after the trial
When your 30-day trial ends, Daisy stops recording new meetings until you subscribe. But your existing recordings, transcripts, summaries, and notes stay exactly where they are — in the profile folder you chose. Your data is yours to keep, move, or back up regardless of subscription status.
