Recording a meeting

Daisy records your meeting on your machine, transcribes it live, and lets you take notes alongside the transcript. This article covers a recording from start to finish.

Starting a recording

  1. Open the Record view to reach the New recording screen.
  2. Set a Title. It defaults to the current time, and you can change it.
  3. Pick a Microphone from the dropdown. This choice applies to the session only and does not change your default.
  4. Click ● Start recording.

If no microphone is detected or selected, Daisy prompts you before recording can begin.

During the recording

Once recording starts, the screen shows:

  • A live elapsed timer and a REC indicator.
  • The live transcript, with Me and Them lines as speech comes in.
  • An editable Title, a notes area (markdown supported), and a tag picker.

Your title, notes, and tags save automatically as you work, so you can keep them up to date without interrupting the recording.

Pausing and resuming

  • Click ❚❚ Pause recording to pause. A marker is added to the transcript at the pause point, and the timer freezes.
  • Click ▶ Resume to continue the same session.

Discarding a recording

If you want to stop without keeping anything, click 🗑 Discard. Daisy asks you to confirm in a Discard recording? dialog, since the audio and transcript captured so far are permanently deleted and this cannot be undone. Once you confirm, Daisy throws away the recording and returns you to the Library — no half-finished meeting is left behind. To keep what you have, finish and summarize instead.

Finishing

When you are done, pause first, then click ✦ Finish & summarize. Daisy hands the session off to background processing — transcription, speaker separation, and the summary — and returns you to the Library. You do not have to wait on this screen while it finishes.

The floating mini-window

If you want Daisy out of the way while you keep working, select ▭ Mini to minimize to a compact, always-on-top card. The mini-window shows:

  • The live recording status and elapsed time.
  • A scrolling tail of the most recent transcript lines.
  • Pause / Resume and Stop controls.

Select the restore control () on the card to bring the main window back exactly where you left off. Choosing Stop from the mini-window confirms first, then ends the meeting.

The floating recording indicator

When a recording is in progress and you navigate away, a draggable pill appears in the corner showing the elapsed time and either Return to recording or Paused — return. Click it to jump back to the recording screen; drag it to move it out of the way.

Good to know

  • Word-by-word live transcript requires Deepgram. Without it, the transcript arrives in short chunks rather than in real time.
  • When you record on speakers rather than headphones, acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) keeps the far side's voice out of your mic track, so "who said what" stays clean. You can adjust it under Settings → Behavior.
